Quilt Coat
WHERE:
The Foundry Coffee House (Downstairs Meeting Room)
202 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, TX 75702
DATES:
November 7th & 14th. This is a two-day workshop, and participants should plan to attend both sessions.
WORKSHOP DETAILS:
Give a well-loved quilt a new life by turning it into a cozy, one-of-a-kind Rue Quilt Coat by Spaghetti Western Sewing!
The Rue is an intentionally relaxed, oversized quilt coat with a retro-inspired collar, dramatic split side hems, patch pockets, long sleeves perfect for cuffing, and bias-tape-finished seams. The adult version even includes an interior strap so you can carry your coat off your shoulders when you get too warm.
Choose to make either an adult or child-sized Rue Coat. Adult sizing is based on bust measurement and accommodates busts from 32" to 60.5". The kids' version is sized by age with the same intentionally oversized fit.
This class takes place over two days so we have plenty of time to carefully lay out and cut your quilt, construct your coat, and work through all those finishing details. If you finish your first coat early and have enough quilt left to start another, you’re welcome to!
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Your Rue Quilt Coat pattern, sewing supplies, notions, and equipment are provided, including a dedicated sewing machine to use during class.
You bring the quilt—we’ll turn it into a coat!
Your quilt size will depend on the size coat you plan to make. Because vintage and handmade quilts can vary in size, we’ll work together on pattern placement before cutting into your quilt.
SKILL LEVEL
Confident Beginner / Advanced Beginner. Spaghetti Western Sewing rates the Rue for advanced beginner sewists and beyond.
This is a great next step if you’ve taken Sewing Basics and are ready to tackle your first garment. You should feel comfortable operating a sewing machine and sewing basic seams. You do not need previous garment-sewing experience.
SKILLS PRACTICED
Choosing your size and reading a garment sewing pattern
Planning pattern placement on an existing quilt
Cutting and preparing quilted fabric
Working with thick, layered materials
Constructing sleeves, patch pockets, a collar, and split side hems
Finishing seams and edges with bias tape
Building confidence with garment sewing!
CANCELLATION POLICY
Hem & Holler is a small, one-woman business, and last-minute cancellations can make it difficult to fill workshop spots. Because of this, all class purchases are nonrefundable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your seat to another person by notifying Hem & Holler before the class begins. If you cancel with more than 72 hours’ notice, you may receive a digital store credit toward a future workshop. Store credits never expire. Cancellations made with less than 72 hours’ notice are not eligible for refunds, transfers, or credits.
All workshops require a minimum of three participants. If Hem & Holler must cancel a class due to low enrollment, illness, or unforeseen circumstances, students will be notified by email and may choose a full refund or credit toward a future class. Hem & Holler is not responsible for additional costs, including travel or independently purchased materials.
By registering for this class, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the terms, conditions, and cancellation policy.
